Motivate unmotivated students with these surprising motivators
So many youth believe that they are already prepared to live independently, and don't need anymore training or education before embarking on life on their own. Here are some very creative ways to show youth that education will be essential to their future. All these interventions focus on common adult transportation problems. If your youngsters don't readily have the answers to these adult situations, perhaps they also don't "know it all" about other key adult independent living issues too. ** Off the Road Again Explain what happens when you hydroplane, and when you hit black ice; how do you try to still stay on the road? Answer: When you hydroplane, your car floats on a sheet of water caused by rain on the road. Black ice is ice on the road that you may not be able to see. Black ice can be present before any evidence of icy or dangerous driving conditions is obvious and can send you flying. Slow down and avoid turning your wheels abruptly. Perhaps people think about all those science classes that they skipped as they hydroplane off the road or fly through the air on black ice... ** Say Good Bye to a Good Buy You're buying a car. The dealer says that they will add the option you want to your car on Thursday. What is an option, and what do you say? Answer: An option is a feature that can be added to a car, such as a cassette player. You say "I must see the option on the car before I pay." Once you have paid for the car, the dealer has no incentive to follow though, and you lack any clout to gain compliance once you pay. ** Do You Know the Way to San Jose-- Today? Name a good site on the internet to get free directions to anywhere in the US then show how to use it by finding the way from where you are right now to San Jose. Answer: Some great, free map sites include mapquest, mapblast, travelocity, anywho and charlotte. ** Filling Up Can Drain You You fill up your gas tank at a gas station. Later, you write a check for another purchase; the check bounces. You know you had over $100 in your account. What happened? Answer: You used your debit card to buy gas and gave your card prior to the gas being pumped. The gas station put a "hold" on $100 of your checking account funds. Next time, don't use a debit card, or wait to use the card until the amount of gas purchased is known. Then you'll only be debited for the amount you bought, not the amount you might have bought. ** Insure It You total your car. You and the insurance company finalize the amount that you'll be paid for your car. Their check arrives but it's missing $250. What happened? Answer: The $250 was your deductible. ** It's Classified You need to buy a car. Ads refer to "OAC," "AC," "4D" and "4WD." Translate. Answer: OAC means "on approved credit," that if you are deemed worthy of credit, they will loan you money to buy a car. AC is air conditioning. 4D means four doors, but 4WD means four wheel drive; got all that?! ** Did You Know That Cars Can Swim? You're about to get a good deal on a used car. How can you tell if the car has been for a swim? Answer: Sometimes that good deal means that the car has a soggy past. For example, after a flood, cars can be restored to look and smell okay, but may have hidden problems from time underwater. Use the internet to search a car's past and discover past collisions and even undersea adventures. Want more strategies like these? These strategies are taken from our Maximum-Strength Motivation-Makers book. We have many more lively, compelling strategies just like the ones here. ( youthchg/guide. html).
Bathroom vanities the focal point
When it comes to dйcor in the bathroom, there are only so many things one can do with most elements of the bathroom. There are only so many colors a person can paint their walls or have their tiles. One element of a bathroom stands out above most others, though, in its ability to completely change the look of a room. What feature has such remarkable power over dйcor? The answer is bathroom vanities, of course. Bathroom vanities are able to set the mood for the whole room from their style, and are inevitably the focal point of a bathroom's dйcor. With bathroom vanities playing such a vital part of the dйcor in your bathroom, the different styles of vanities available obviously merit some consideration. Finding the right vanity can be a bit tricky, but it is well worth the effort. A vanity can, after all, do a number of things for your dйcor. Firstly, the right vanity can fit perfectly into your dйcor and become the central point that brings your whole room together. On the other hand, finding a vanity that catches your eye can just as easily be the thing which inspires your dйcor. In this case, rather than being the thing that brings your room together, it is the starting point on top of which you build your room. Whether it is the focal point or the cornerstone, though, there are nearly endless different bathroom vanities available. Each one will have a different effect on the room. But with so many possibilities, it is easy to get caught up in the impact that the flashy and dramatic styles have. It is, however, important to remember that in many cases simplicity is the best way to go. Your basic vanity usually consists of a countertop with an inlaid sink, as well as a mirror, and often some form of cabinet underneath. This design is quite adequate to fit into most decors. The vanity itself can be stained wood, or painted, whichever works best, and the countertop can be any number of surfaces. The greatest advantage of going with a more basic model is that it will give your room a kind of simple elegance that models that are more glamorous may lack. If you do wish to go with a somewhat more unique model, though, you have a number of choices. If your dйcor demands bathroom vanities that are more ornate, you may want to look into a model with a hard wood countertop, and perhaps a more out of the ordinary sink, to give your bathroom a very up scale feel. If bathroom vanities of a more wild nature strike your fancy, you can even find a few models that may turn a few heads for an entirely different reason. For instance, a plastic counter top and sink complete with shining chrome exposed piping will lend your bathroom a futuristic flare. Dull metal counter tops and blockier construction can be used instead, if you want to go for an industrial look. Copyright © Jared Winston, 2006. All Rights Reserved.

Skills for the beginning mountain biker
Mountain biking is a fun sport but it is also dangerous. However, participants can lesson their chances of injury by taking a few precautions. First off, of course, they should have the necessary skills before even getting on the mountain. Practically anyone can get on a bike and ride around their neighborhood, go across flat countryside or ride up and down hills, but when it comes to mountain biking, the rider should have certain skills before giving it a try. Depending on how long you've ridden your bike, it's quite possible that you do have these skills - so let's just run through them. 1) Feel the pedals Are you used to keeping your feet on your pedals at all times? Of course you are. But when you're mountain biking (or doing stunts), feet come off the pedals... and have to be able to find them again without hesitation. So practice taking your feet off the pedals and replacing them...this will instill "muscle memory" so your feet always will know where the pedals should be at any given time. 2) Shift the gears If you live in a flat area, you probably don't do a lot of gear shifting. This will change when you get on the slopes, so find yourself a hill near your home and practicing shifting as you go both up and down. Also, if you get tired just biking up a regular-sized hill, you'll want to do some wind sprints up that same hill for a couple of weeks before you decide to take on a mountain. 3) Stand up for yourself Most people sit on their bikes while they ride, but again, on a mountain bike you don't have that luxury. You'll be off your seat more often than not. So practice coasting along while standing, and then pedaling while standing....and don't do it for just a few yards and then stop. 4) Before you go hurtling down Mountain biking is a dangerous sport, and you should always wear a helmet, and knee and elbow pads. And when you're practicing going over curbs - the same should apply. You want to practice going up and over curbs to get the feel of doing it on a hill. You know your own bike best - exactly how high can an obstruction be before you can't go over it with your bike? Probably about six inches. Going off a curb is another thing entirely. As long as you have good balance and strong hands to keep your front tire straight, you can get quite a bit of "air" before hitting the ground again - but you need to know the ground you'll be landing on to ensure that there's no obstructions that will get in your way. So always ride a downhill trail relatively slowly the first time, before you go full out. But back to practicing. Check out the curbs in your neighborhood, and - while wearing your safety gear and making sure there's no traffic in the area - practice going over them at different speeds. If all the curbs are of the same height, you'll have to increase them using man-made objects such as ramps. However... you learned to crawl before you could walk, and by the same token, become very comfortable on those short curbs before you try to increase the height and air of your jumps, and always wear your safety gear while you do it. There's no need to be impatient. Work on your skills first, then tackle a beginners mountain biking trail or two to perfect your skills even more. Once you've got the skills, mountain biking will be a breeze!
How to end the frustration of insomnia
Insomnia is a common sleep sickness that has bothered many people around the world. But the consequences brought about by this disorder may not be as ordinary as it may seem. It can be downright punishing. You know the frustration of looking repeatedly at your clock while endlessly moving around in your bed. It's mental and emotional agony to say the least. The tension builds up to its peak when you see the sunrise, and you have to go to the office lacking so much energy after spending a sleepless night. You don't have to suffer anymore. Here are some tips to help you snooze faster than you could ever expect. 1) Wake up and go to bed at the same time everyday, even during the weekends. Some insomniacs tend to sleep at any time of the day to catch up on some sleep they lose during the night. Now this is the biggest mistake you can make. It ruins your body clock and will only worsen your insomnia. If you can't sleep one night, get up the usual time the next morning. You'll be sleeping soundly like a baby the next night. 2) Don't eat within 4 hours before you go to bed. If in case you went hungry, try some crackers or light snack. But don't indulge in an "eat-all-you-can" feast right before bedtime. Your food won't be digested well, resulting in poor and uncomfortable sleep. 3) Don't drink caffeine or alcohol. Caffeine can obstruct your ability to sleep. Alcohol can make you drowsy, but it can wake you up in the middle of the night and bring you side effects that will hinder a continuous sleep process. 4) Relax and stay fit. Avoid having a stressful lifestyle. Exercise daily to release tension. Engage in breathing exercises to relax your body. Most important of all, don't carry your problems or emotional baggage to sleep with you. Forget about it for the mean time. You can go back and solve your dilemma better the next day after a restful sleep. 5) Never force yourself to sleep. Trying your best to sleep requires some work. You don't want to work when you want to doze off. Sleep comes best if you are in a relaxed and comfortable state. Just lie down, relax, and let the sleeping fairy cast its spell upon you.
Business credit cards
Competent accessories are the forte for setting up any business empire today. And if the tool gives you maximum benefits and least tensions, it is indeed a boon in disguise. Business credit cards with its multifaceted twin benefit system — of simplicity in application and of churning out a lot of profits for the owner are truly designed for people who want to make a mark in the business world. A boon it is. From looking after your daily operations to organizing your business expenses to guiding you towards saving money, business credit cards are the real managers behind a successful entrepreneur. What makes it more popular is that its application is not complicated at all. And you have varieties to choose from. There are business credit cards designed to suit entrepreneurs with poor credit history and then there are those made especially for the corporate business owner. Some of the bigger players of credit cards nee Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, and a host of others pride themselves with having created the perfect card for any business owner. The onus is on the customer to pick and choose the best credit card to suit his type of Business Empire. Once you have done that just sit back and enjoy doing business because the credit card that you have actually pocketed will do your business for you. Financial advisors oft advise that business and personal expenses should be clearly bifurcated to avoid tax complications that could arise later on. For this reason alone, it is advisable to keep these business credit cards that will easily categorize business and personal expenses. No need for you to keep any receipts either. By large the best part of these cards is the profit-generating factor attached to it. One will get much more than you would have dreamt of. Sample this, office supplies can be discounted, free travel accommodations can be earned, and you can earn as many discounts and offers on your card. The bonus benefits like rewards for holding the card are really the icing on the cake. Each of the card big names has something lucrative and irresistible to offer. While everything sounds hunky dory, there is a word of caution too. Low introductory rates, unrestricted spending limits, and cash advances are all attractive but each one can lead you to trouble. Where cards with high introductory rates could land your business in trouble and could result in no savings. On the other hand if you have no control over what you spend, you could end up paying much more and saving much less. Remember you have to pay a due amount every month. So check your limits. Lastly one has to be careful with cash advances too. While cash advances allows an owner to access cash during periods of low cash flow, most cards have extremely high interest rates and extra fees attached to advances. If measured in a beam balance one is sure to find out that the high points outweigh the low points with quite a big margin. As for the rest, the choice is all yours
Building courage to improve your personal life
Building Courage to Improve your Personal Life When you build courage, you start to improve your personal life. Building courage will help you take risks to a brighter future that you ordinarily would not take. When you build courage, you put fear behind you. courage is the process of admitting that you have fears, yet you are willing to find a way to defeat those fears and not allow these fears to take control of you. It is ok to experience your fears at appropriate times. For instance, if a bus is heading in your path, swerving you have a right to fear. There is nothing wrong with healthy fear. The problem is you have to put healthy fear in its place and unhealthy fear out of your life. Once you build courage, you will learn to self-direct you in life. You will learn to accept punishment and rewards gracefully. A courageous person will often feel motivated to accept blame and responsibility while reviewing their actions and using what they learn to move forward. Courageous people will step to the front, rather than stepping back when opportunities come their way. On the other hand, a courageous person will step back and take a view at his or her mistakes gracefully. Sometimes the courageous person is spontaneous. It is never good to plan each day, because no one knows what the next day will bring in. Think about it. How many times have you planned something all to see it shatter in your face the next day. For instance, I plan to go to the ballgame tomorrowe tomorrow a blizzard, hurricane, tornado, wind storm, or rainstorm could change your mind. You planned, but did you plan for the weather. Did you make a backup plan in case your first plan failed. As you can see, planning is not always in your favor, which is why courageous people are sometimes spontaneous. A person willing to improve their life will relax. This person will relax even when plans fail. For instance, if it stormed the next day the person will find something else to occupy his or her time and feel just as happy about joining this adventure. To become successful and improve your life you will need to learn how to trust you. When you trust you, you can trust others as well. Unfortunately, we live in a world where trust is hard to find, yet when you trust you, you can’t blame others when things go wrong. Improving your life includes using your creative and critical mind. When you can create new ideas, you are off to the road to success. You have many options in this world, it takes you to pull up resources to find those options. Sometimes in life, we feel uncomfortable. In fact, this is common. Are you willing to accept your discomforts? Perhaps at an interview you feel misplaced. Are you willing to accept this discomfort and find a way to deliver a good speech to impress the interviewer. Alternatively, are you willing to allow negative energies cost you the job. Do you accept? Do you accept the things you cannot change? Do you accept the things you have control over? Do you accept other people regardless of how these people act? Do you accept you for who you are? Do you accept the changes that life brings your way? Acceptance is your key to happiness. When you can learn to accept the good with the bad, you can learn how to live happier and improve your personal life. If you cannot accept however, well, reread this article again.
Is it a heart attack signs and symptoms
While you may be aware of the most common signs of heart attack, there are some variances between men and women. In addition, there are also less obvious, but just as import symptoms of which you need to be aware. The most common symptom of a heart attack for both men and women is persistent chest pain or pressure that does not go away when you sit or rest. If this is experienced, immediate emergency help is required. Even if it is not a heart attack, this could be a symptom of heart disease or other serious problems. Other symptoms of a heart attack include pain that radiates through the shoulders, back, arms, or jaw. Less intense chest pain accompanied by shortness of breath, dizziness, or nausea should also be taken seriously. These could be signs of a heart attack or something else, but is better to find out immediately. Women may experience other symptoms not normally associated with a heart attack until recently. Women are more likely to experience the "milder" warning signs such as shortness of breath, dizziness, anxiety, fatigue, and cold sweats. Women may also experience similar signs days or weeks prior to an actual attack. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, make an appointment with your doctor to be monitored for heart disease. Adults of all ages can be affected by heart disease, although many people still consider it to be something that only older adults need to be concerned with. Certain risk factors add to heart disease, including tobacco use, high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol. Some of these risk factors can be lowered through proper care and exercise. Seek help to eliminate tobacco use, add an exercise program to your daily routine, and change dietary habits to lower cholesterol. If you have diabetes, follow your doctor's recommendations on taking proper care of yourself and monitor your blood sugar levels on a regular basis. Lifestyle changes can be difficult, but many resources exist to help you make these changes. Your doctor will have plenty of information on all the major risk factors. You can also find additional information from organizations such as the American Medical Association. If you find yourself in a situation where you are experiencing the signs of heart attack or warning signs of heart disease, be sure to describe accurately all your symptoms. Some people try to appear "tough" and minimize their symptoms. Others may feel that they are being a bother or overreacting to the symptoms, particularly if they seem mild. However, if your caretakers do not have an accurate picture of your symptoms, they may not be able to diagnose your condition effectively. This is particularly true of early warning signs and symptoms. It's much better to address heart disease as early as possible rather than finding yourself needing an emergency quadruple bypass. Of course, genetics play a role, but this is even more of a reason to monitor your health closely and any potential warning signs. In general, the healthier a lifestyle you can maintain, the better off you are, for both coronary and general health. Be sure to have a complete medical evaluation completed by your doctor, particularly if heart disease runs in your family. Eat a varied diet that includes fruits, vegetables, fish, and healthy oils. Maintain a regular exercise program, and try to keep your weight within a healthy range (your doctor can help you with this as well). Additionally, make an effort to keep your stress levels at a healthy level. When you take care of your health, you can significantly reduce your chances of suffering a heart attack or other coronary disease.
Changing attitudes towards i. o.u. s
Changing times give rise to changing attitudes. With education and the growth of industry, so much of what we previously believed in has become obsolete. Schooling has become essential for people of all classes today. Educated people are no longer limited to only the privileged upper classes. Governments all around the world have for quite some time recognized the importance of raising the literacy levels. The changing attitudes are not just visible in the field of education. Gender issues have also been affected by the changing times. Women are no longer permanent fixtures in front of the hearth. They now have the freedom to venture out in the world to find their fortunes. Finding one's fortunes is no longer limited to the men of the world. Moreover, it has become easier than ever before to actually find one's fortunes. This is partly due to the immense growth in the world of personal finance. To what can we attribute this growth in the field of personal finance? One of the reasons will have to be the changing attitudes of the people. There was a time when people felt embarrassed to go out and ask for loans. Then, they simply waited for conditions to get better till they became convinced that no further improvement was possible. It was only then that they decided to go out and get some loans to help them out of their monetary woes. Times have changed a great deal. Today, people have no qualms about going to a bank or some other financial institution to avail of loans. They know that they will not be laughed at or insulted. Banking representatives are well trained in the arts of politeness. So even while rejecting a client, they use the softest words possible. Gone are the days when people developed goose bumps at the mere thought of having to go to a moneylender. These days it is normal procedure to walk into a bank and check out for yourself the loan deals that are available to you. Thanks to the changed attitudes of the people at large, banking institutions have taken it upon themselves to make life easier for all those who are trying to improve their lots in life. As a result, our world is overflowing with loan offers that pertain to houses, cars, education, home improvement and more. Working up a tab is no longer a bad thing. After all, credit cards have turned into status symbols. And all this is thanks to changing attitudes.
Using your health savings account to build retirement savings
Health Savings Accounts are an excellent way to build a second retirement account. These tax-favored accounts, which have only been available since January of 2004, can be opened by anyone with a qualifying high-deductible health insurance plan. Once you open an HSA account, you can place tax-deductible contributions into it, which grow tax-deferred like an IRA. You may withdraw money tax-free to pay for medical expenses at any time. The biggest reason more people don't retire before age 65 is lack of health insurance, and many Americans reach age 65 woefully unprepared for the medical expenses they'll face once they do retire. One of the most important long-term reasons for establishing an HSA is to build up some money for medical expenses incurred during retirement. Fidelity Investments reports that the average couple retiring in 2006 will need $190,000 to cover medical expenses during retirement. This assumes life expectancies of 15 years for the husband and 20 years for the wife. HSAs are, without exception, the best way to build up money to pay for medical expenses during retirement. You should not contribute any money to your traditional IRA, 401 (k), or any other savings account until you have maximized your contribution to your HSA. This is because only health savings accounts allow you to make withdrawals tax-free to pay for medical expenses. You can take these distributions anytime before or after age 65. Your HSA contributions won't affect your IRA limits -- $3,000 per year or $3,600 for those over 55. It's just another tax-deferred way to save for retirement, with the added advantage being that you can withdraw funds tax-free if they are used to pay for medical expenses. For early retirees who are healthy, a health savings account can also be a smart option to help lower their health insurance costs while they wait for their Medicare coverage. The older someone is, the more they can save with an HSA plan. For many people in their 50's and 60's who are not yet eligible for Medicare, HSAs are by far the most affordable option. Any money you deposit in your health savings account is 100% tax-deductible, and the money in the account grows tax-deferred like an IRA. For 2006, the maximum contribution for a single person is the lesser amount of your deductible or $2,700. In other words, if your deductible is $3,000, you can contribute a maximum of $2,700; if your deductible is $2,000, then that is the maximum. For families, maximum is the lesser of $5,450 or the deductible. If you're 55 and older, you can put in an extra $700 catch-up contribution in 2006, $800 in 2007, $900 in 2008, and an additional $1,000 from 2009 onward. The contribution limit is indexed to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), so it will increase at the rate of inflation each year. How much you accumulate in your HSA will depend on how much you contribute each year, the number of years you contribute, the investment return you get, and how long you go before withdrawing money from the account. If you regularly fund your HSA, and are fortunate enough to be healthy and not use a lot of medical care, a substantial amount of wealth can build up in your account. Health savings accounts are self-directed, meaning that you have almost total control over where you invest your funds. There are numerous banks that can act as your HSA administrator. Some offer only savings accounts, while others offer mutual funds or access to a full-service brokerage where you may place your money in stocks, bonds, mutual funds, or any number of investment vehicles. One of the biggest advantages of retirement accounts like HSAs are that the funds are allowed to grow without being taxed each year. This can dramatically increase your return. For example, if you are in the 33% tax bracket, you would need a 15% return on a taxable investment to match a tax-deferred yield of only 10%. As another example, if you are in a 33% tax bracket and were to invest $5,450 each year in a taxable investment that yielded a 15% return, you would have $312,149 after 20 years. If you put that same money in a tax-deferred investment vehicle like an HSA, you would have $558,317 - over $240,000 more. Because catch-up contributions are allowed only for people age 55 and older, if one or both of you are under age 55 you should establish your HSA in the older spouse's name. This will allow you to capitalize on the expanded HSA contribution limits for people in this age range and maximize your HSA contributions. Once that person turns 65 and is no longer eligible to contribute to their HSA, you can open another health savings account in the younger spouse's name. Strategies to Maximize your HSA Account Growth If your objective is to maximize the growth of your HSA in order to build up additional funds for your retirement, there are three important strategies you should implement. Strategy #1: place your money in mutual funds or other investments that have growth potential. Though this is riskier than placing your money in an FDIC-insured savings account, it is the only way to really take advantage of the tax-deferred growth opportunity that an HSA provides. Strategy #2: delay withdrawals from your account as long as possible. Though you may withdraw money from your HSA tax-free at any time to pay for qualified medical expenses, you do have the option of leaving the money in the HSA so that it continues to grow tax-free. As long as you save your receipts, you can make medical withdrawals from your account tax-free at any future date to reimburse yourself for medical expenses incurred today. As an example, let's say a 45 year old couple places $5,450 per year in their HSA over a period of 20 years, they have $2,000 per year in qualified medical expenses, and they get a 12% return on their investments. If they withdraw the $2,000 from their HSA each year, they'll have a net contribution of $3,450 per year into their account, and they'll have $248,581 in their account when they begin their retirement years. If on the other hand they delay withdrawing that money, they will have $392,686 in their account at age 65. If they choose they can withdraw the $40,000 to reimburse themselves tax-free for the medical expenses incurred during that 20 year period, and still have $352,686 in their account - over $100,000 more than if they had withdrawn the money each year. Strategy #3: make the maximum allowable deposit to your HSA at the beginning of each year. Even though you are allowed until April 15 of the following year to make deposits to your HSA, you should take advantage of the tax-free growth in your account by funding it as soon as possible. The extra interest you can earn by contributing to your account on January 1 of each year rather than the next April 15 can amount to over $40,000 in a 20 year period, and over $100,000 in 30 years. Using Your HSA to Pay for Medical Expenses during Retirement When you enroll in Medicare, you can use your account to pay Medicare premiums, deductibles, copays, and coinsurance under any part of Medicare. If you have retiree health benefits through your former employer, you can also use your account to pay for your share of retiree medical insurance premiums. The one expense you cannot use your account for is to purchase a Medicare supplemental insurance or "Medigap" policy. Though Medicare will pay for the majority of health expenses during retirement, there many be expenses that Medicare will not cover. The truth is, the higher percentage of parents availing this option, are those of higher educational attainment. It is almost impossible to project high school students and their social life if they are taking home schooling. In a complete study kit of formal home education, socialization is part of the curriculum, where they intermingle with fellow home-schooled children on field trips and assigned extra curricular activities. These outdoor activities are required weekly. Contrary to what has been traditionally expected, home-schooled children excel academically, more contented and socially mature compared to the rest who attend the institutions. What are the advantages of high school home schooling? Bad peer influence is the primary reason why teen-agers and minors go astray without parental control. Air travel rules flying with pets
Air Travel Rules: Flying With Pets When it comes to air travel, a large number of individuals hit the skies daily. People fly for all different reasons. Some individuals need to make a business trip, others are visiting friends or family, others are going on vacation, and some are making a cross country move. If you are moving, there is a good chance that you may need to bring your pet along with you. If this is the case, you will find that you are subject to a whole new set of air travel rules. Before leaving for the airport, with your pet or pets in tow, you are advised to famialrize yourself with those rules. The first step in traveling, in the air, with a pet is to make sure that they are even allowed. Certain pets are allowed to be on airplanes, but that does not mean that all airlines will allow it. If you are planning on traveling with your pet, you will need to inform your airline of this information upfront. This is vital because not all airlines will allow you to bring a pet onboard. Therefore, if you do not check with your airline before heading to the airport, you may be unable to board your flight. When traveling with a pet, you will need to keep that pet contained. That means that if you are traveling with an animal, such as a dog or a cat, that animal will likely need to be in a carrier. When purchasing an animal carrier, it is important to know that not all carriers are permitted onboard. If you will be keeping your animal in the cabin with you, as opposed to having your animal treated as checked baggage, you will need to make sure that your pet carrier will not negatively affect other passengers. Your pet carrier must not block aisle ways or encroach on other passenger’s seating spaces. In addition to these general rules and restrictions, you may find that each airline has their own set of pet carrier rules. Almost all airlines require that your pets have the proper documents before being allowed on their airplanes. These documents most commonly include information on your pet’s health. Most airlines require that your pet undergoes a medical evaluation before being transported by airplane. This information is not only used to ensure that your pet is healthy enough to fly, but is also used to ensure that they are protected with the proper vaccinations. Proper vaccinations will not only protect your pet, but other passengers, as well as airline staff. Once you have received clearance from the airline, which you wish to fly on, purchased the appropriate pet equipment, and obtained the proper health checks for your pet, you will need to wait until your day of travel. On that day, you may want to arrive at the airport a little bit earlier than recommended. This will help to ensure that you could quickly straighten out a problem, without having to miss your flight, should one arise. When you and your pet arrive at the airport, whether it be early or not, you will both be required to go through airport security. Your pet will be required to pass through a metal detector, just like everyone else. If you are using a pet carrier, it is also likely that your pet carrier will be subject to examination. This examination most commonly includes being sent though the x-ray machine with your carryon luggage; however, it is important to note that your pet will not have to go through the x-ray machine; the metal detector should be enough. As previously mentioned, not all airlines allow their passengers to fly with their pets, even in the cabin or below deck. That is why it is advised that you determine whether or not your pet can fly with you, ahead of time. In addition to different air travel rules, you may also find that some airlines charged extra fees for pet passengers. In the event that you are charged, you will be notified of this charge ahead of time. Word Count 681
